The Mission of V.F.W. Post 879 is to promote Patriotism and Americanism to the children of our community.  We do this by sponsoring contests for our students with themes of Americanism.  Post 879 presents two (2) $1,000 scholarships to seniors at Seneca Valley High School.  We also sponsor students for the "Voice of Democracy"  and "Patriots Penn".  These are V.F.W. national contests.  Our post also participates in these contests and have post awards for the students.  We contribute to our "V.F.W. National Home for Children" in Eaton Rapids, Michigan and "Scotland School for Veterans Children" at Scotland, PA

Our community activities are numerous.  The "Cranberry Light Up Night" parade is led by our post color guard every year.  We participate every "Community Day" July 4th celebration with our color guard for opening ceremonies and we have an informational booth to promote our post and patriotism.  We distribute small flags on this occasion.  Post 879 presents the colors on many dedications in the community.  we donate to the Library to purchase books about Patriotism and the history of our Armed Services.

Our greatest contribution to the community is the "All Veterans Memorial" located in North Boundary Park.  Our post raised all the funds and the Memorial committee designed and supervised construction.  We won the National V.F.W. Community Service Award for this project.

Post 879 has been Chartered for ten (10) years.  Five (5) of those years, thanks to the members, we have had the honor to be recognized as an "All State Post".  We have no building or bar.  We meet at the Cranberry Elks, Rte. 19, the third (3) Thursday of the month at 7:30pm.  The post has 140 members, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq and many other recognized conflicts.  Funds are obtained by Bi-annual distribution of "Buddy Poppies" at businesses in Cranberry Twp.  We are financially sound.

We donate funds to the VA Hospital in Butler and have six (6) members who volunteer for our hospitalized veterans.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars was organized to help Comrades and families of Comrades in distress.  Your membership will add to the numbers that V.F.W. Political Action Committee (lobby) represents.  Strength is in numbers.  Our Congress is made up of too many non - veterans.  They have to be made aware of the obligation to continue veterans benefits for our hospitalized veterans and those veterans with service connected injuries.  If you are a veteran, please consider becoming a member of V.F.W. Post 879, Cranberry Twp., PA.  You will be welcomed into our post and you will help your Comrades in distress.

Best Regards,
