Meeting for August 2019

The August 2019 meeting will be Thursday, August 15th at the Elks, 1930 (7:30 PM). If you have anything to bring up let us know ahead of time, so things move faster. Click here for more information about the meeting location.

Planning for the Fall

  • We will have a lot to go over at this meeting, although there is not much going on in August
  • We are coming up on the Fall with a bunch of events in n September, October and November

Fall Poppy Drive

  • The Fall Poppy Drive is scheduled for November 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, and 11th
  • Everyone should be able to give a few hours during this time.

Voice of Democracy & Patriot’s Pen

  • We have three (3) schools Saint Gregory, Haine, and Seneca Valley
  • We will need groups to go over entries as it could be over 200
  • The due date to us is Oct 30th.
  • With 10+ volunteers we can easily meet the 2-week deadline

Recognition Committee

  • We would like to nominate a Teacher of the Year for the following grade ranges: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12
  • In addition, we also need to nominate a local Fire Fighter, EMT, and Police

Adopt a Unit

  • We have an adopted military unity, but we need to get out to them soon
  • Please be present to propose time and date for this

Committee Reports

  • Color Guard report needed
  • Youth Committee report needed

Help Still Needed for May 2019 Poppy Drive

VFW Post 879 members, the Poppy Drive is only a week away and I know everyone is looking forward to It. But we still need help! There are a few gaps in our staffing, so please review the list below and let us know where you can help.

Current Schedule Gaps

If you have not signed up we can still use you and any time. Even if you can’t do the full 2 hours.

  • Saturday, May 5th
    • 1200-1400: 2 volunteers needed
    • 1400-1600: 2 volunteers needed
  • Friday, May 10th *
    • 1000 to 1200: 3 volunteers needed
  • Saturday, May 11th
    • 1000 to 1200: 3 volunteers needed
  • Sunday, May 12
    • 1000 to 1200: 3 volunteers needed
  • Friday, May 17
    • 1000 to 1200: 1 volunteer needed
  • Saturday, May 18th
    • 1000 to 1200: 2 volunteers needed
  • Sunday, May 19th *
    • 1200 to 1400: 4 volunteers needed
    • 1400 to 1600: 4 volunteers needed

* Other events are going on at these times, so some members will be out of pocket

Help Whenever You Can

Keep in mind any time you can come the Post needs you. If you can come at any time let the commander know. Some of the gaps may be filled by moving volunteers around, but we will still be understaffed or spread thin during the above times.

Morning Shift Meeting Time

For those on the 0800-1000 shift, especially our first day Saturday, May 4th, we will meet at the Kentucky Fried Chicken inside Walmart at about 0730.
